(1) Nanomedicine : Multifunctional Nanoparticles of Biodegradable Polymers for Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment - Nanomedicine is to apply nanotechnology to solve the problems in medicine, which means to diagnose and treat the disease at its molecular origin and thus will radically change the way we diagnose, treat and prevent diseases. In this project, novel nanoparticles of biodegradable polymers with multiple functions such as targeting, diagnosing, therapy-delivering and result-reporting will be developed for cancer diagnosis and treatment. Cancer will become curable at its earliest stage by molecular imaging guided, targeted and sustained chemotherapy since high drug concentration could be delivered to a very limited area and the needed amount of the drug could be minimized.
(2) Nanomedicine: Nanoparticles of Biodegradable Polymers for Delivery of diagnostic and Therapeutic Agents across the Blood Brain Barrier - The blood brain barrier is a physiological mechanism that protects brain from harmful chemicals and helps maintain a homeostatic environment for a healthy and efficient brain. The BBB, however, constitutes a main obstacle of imaging and therapeutic agents for diagnosis and treatment of brain diseases such as brain tumor, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. This project proposes to use nanoparticles of biodegradable polymers with functional surface modifications to deliver Gd-DTPA as model imaging agent and paclitaxel as model drug across the BBB. The emphasis will be given to manufacture, characterization, in vitro release, in vitro cell line and in vivo animal model.
教师简介 冯思慎教授是国际知名科学家,是化疗工程学和纳米医学学科创始人之一。 1968年毕业于北京大学数学力学系,1981年获清华大学工程力学系硕士学位, 1988年获美国哥伦比亚大学(Columbia University)博士学位并在该校医学院完成博士后深造, 1989年起在美国西北大学(Northwestern University)的生化、细胞和分子生物学系从事细胞生物物理及生物膜研究工作七年。1996年10月赴新加坡国立大学(National University of Singapore)化学和生物分子工程系执教,并在生物工程系兼职。发表论文81篇。其中SCI论文68篇, 另有三篇在线,总引用数》1,618,平均每篇论文被引用23.79次, h指数(h-Index)为21。现任新加坡国立大学校级生物纳米技术重点研究项目的主席,从事纳米医学研究,并多次获奖,如与钱煦教授共获美国化学工程学学术刊物2004-2006四年最高引用奖。他断言化疗工程学将改变人类制药和服药的方式。他在新加坡国立大学的生物工程走廊创建了世界首间化疗工程实验室。冯思慎教授现为国际著名杂志生物材料 (Biomaterials, 影响因子6.646) 和纳米医学 (Nanomedicine,影响因子6.093) 的副主编, 冯教授也是诸多国际著名杂志如国际纳米医学杂志 (International Journal of Nanomedicine),国际生物医学纳米技术杂志 (Nanomedicine – Nanotechnology, Biology & Medicine) ,肝癌评论 (Liver Cancer Review Letters), 中国生物医学工程的编委。冯教授现为新加坡国立大学博导,带出博士生11名,硕士生22名。现有在读博士生5名,硕士生3名。
